Michael and Heather

About Us

A little bit about the bride and groom.

Michael and Heather first met in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 2002. If you don't know the story of how we met...

In December 2002, Michael and his dad, Mike, were vacationing together for the first time in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  It was Michael’s last “hurrah” before joining the military in the spring of 2003.  During that same vacation, Heather was also holidaying in Puerto Vallarta (and staying at the same resort as Michael) with her mother, Anna, and her sister, Robin.  It was Heather, Anna, and Robin’s first mother-daughter trip together.  Little did Michael and Heather know what a fateful trip this would end up being for the both of them!

On one of the first evenings at the resort, Michael’s dad invited the women to join their table for dinner.  During the meal, everyone seemed to enjoy each other’s company and Michael and Heather fell easily into conversation.  It was rare that Michael and Heather had met someone they could connect with so effortlessly.  Following that evening, the five often dined together and Michael and Heather began spending more time together as friends (unfortunately, Heather had a boyfriend at that time!).  By the end of the trip, Michael and Heather were firm friends and they swapped e-mail addresses with promises to stay in touch.  Michael went back to Vancouver and joined the military, while Heather went back to University in London, Ontario.

Obviously, they did stay in touch!  A correspondence took place for more than a year during which time, Heather became single and the two fell in love.  E-mails turned into letters and letters into phone calls.  Soon, Michael and Heather began visiting one another.  It was clear they wanted to be together.  By that time, it was the spring of 2004 and Heather was finishing her degree, while Michael was finished his training and being stationed in Edmonton, Alberta for the next two years.  It was obvious that in order to be together, Heather would have to look for work in Edmonton…

In June 2004, Heather accepted a position as a Speech-Language Pathologist for Edmonton Public Schools and Michael flew to Ontario to help her make the move.  As you know, the rest is history!  They lived together in Edmonton for two years (during which time they fell more deeply in love and adopted their first child, a Boston Terrier named Kobe who is spoiled rotten!) and when Michael’s contract ended with the military, they moved to Penticton, British Columbia and purchased their first home.  Today, you can find them happily settled at 297 Conklin Avenue.
